Right from the moment, the makers of Chiranjeevi’s next, Waltair Veerayya, kept releasing one poster after the other, the star’s fans were increasingly reminded of his 90s avatars akin to Gang Leader, Mutha Mestri and Rowdy Alludu. While responding to a question by a journalist on the comparison to Waltair Veerayya in a media interaction, Chiranjeevi insisted that this is a completely different film.

“The script is very different and unique. Though the posters may remind you of Mutha Mestri or Rowdy Alludu, I can assure that this will be a different character with a different accent. No doubt, the film is massy but you’ll come out without having any Mutha Mestri hangover. The ‘uttarandhra’ slang, body language will be entertaining; I was charmed watching it on the screen myself,” he shared.

When another journalist asked if he was doing Waltair Veerayya as a break from the heavy films he has taken up in the recent past, “The film is a complete reflection of director’s Bobby love for me. He has grown up watching me in a certain fashion, wanted to recreate it and present me in a way that fans want to see. I have tried my best to bring his imagination alive.”

Speaking of the indifferent response to his films post Khaidi No. 150, Chiranjeevi stated that his desire was always to take up varied subjects but mentioned he had no control over the result. “Our efforts for every film remains the same; some turn out to be blockbusters, some disasters. I would definitely want to do more films like Waltair Veerayya. I was so excited to come to the sets every day.”

“If a well-written script comes with strong emotions as good as Waltair Veerayya, I would love to work on more such films,” the star said. Shruti Haasan, Ravi Teja, Catherine Tresa, Bobby Simha, Rajendra Prasad essay other important roles in the film which also features Urvashi Rautela in a song. Written and directed by Bobby Kolli, the film, produced by Mythri Movie Makers, releases on January 13, 2023.
