iSmart Shankar actor Ram Pothineni, director Puri Jagannadh announce a new film

Ram Pothineni, whose 2008 hit Ready is hitting screens tomorrow in Telugu states, is currently filming for an action entertainer directed by Boyapati Sreenu that’ll have a release across five languages this October 20. Meanwhile, the actor has given a nod to another project. He’ll be reuniting with Liger filmmaker for a massive film. The collaboration was formally announced today.

The announcement video, more or less, confirms that they’re joining forces for the sequel to the surprise hit iSmart Shankar, which gave a fillip to Puri Jagannadh’s career after a spate of flops and validated the credentials of Ram as a commercially bankable star. Nabha Natesh and Nidhhi Agerwal played the female leads in the film which released in July 2019 (now streaming on ZEE5).

Mani Sharma scored the music for iSmart Shankar. The sequel is believed to be titled Double iSmart, a report suggested that the filmmaker had registered the title many years ago. The filmmaker has begun working on the project after Jana Gana Mana, his war-drama with Vijay Deverakonda and Pooja Hegde, was shelved (after the failure of Liger).

Ismart Shankar revolves around a crazy contract killer who kills a popular politician. While cops are on the lookout for him, Shankar flees with his girlfriend (Nabha Natesh). Meanwhile, another cop Arun(Satyadev) entrusted with the case gets killed under mysterious circumstances. When Arun’s memory is transferred to Shankar, the latter’s life takes a drastic turn.
