As India prepares for its third moon mission, Chandrayaan 3, here's a look at the films and series that are based on India's many space missions and prominent names in the field.
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (Amazon Prime Video)
Starring and directed by R Madhavan, this film is based on the real-life story of Indian aerospace engineer Nambi Narayanan, who is credited with making strides in the field of Indian space research.
Mission Mangal (Disney+ Hotstar)
The movie is based on Mangalyaan, India’s first Mars mission in 2013. It has an ensemble cast led by Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, and Taapsee Pannu. The film is loosely based on the lives of scientists at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) who contributed to India’s first interplanetary expedition, the Mars Orbiter Mission.
Rocket Boys (SonyLIV)
This series is about two outstanding scientists, Dr Homi J Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai. It is about the three pivotal decades in India’s development into an independent country, during which time Bhabha designed India’s nuclear programme and Sarabhai founded the Indian Space Program in addition to many more institutions.
Antariksham 9000 KMPH (Amazon Prime Video)
The Telugu film starring Varun Tej and Aditi Rao Hydari is about Dev, a retired astronaut, who is approached for an important mission to repair a satellite that can cause a worldwide communication blackout if not fixed immediately.
