August 22 is turning out to be a feast for the fans of actor Chiranjeevi. Apart from celebrating the actor's 66th birthday on a 'mega' scale, they've been flooded with a series of announcements about his upcoming films today. After Acharya and Mohan Raja's Godfather, the actor has committed to director Meher Ramesh's Bholaa Shankar, the official remake of Ajith's Vedhalam, whose title was announced by Mahesh Babu in the morning today. While reports confirmed that actress Keerthy Suresh will play Chiranjeevi's sister in the film, the makers found the actor's birthday and the Rakshabandhan day apt to officially announce the same today.
AK Entertainments, the producers, confirmed the news with a hashtag #RakhiwithBholaaShankar and a special video commemorating Rakshabandhan. The video had Chiranjeevi donning a kurta pyjama and Keerthy Suresh sporting a traditional costume where the latter is seen tying a rakhi to Chiru. The two exchange smiles and the video ends with Chiru blessing his cute-little on-screen sister in Bholaa Shankar. The last few words in the video read, "Chellelandari Rakshabandham, Abhimanulandari Athmabandham, Mana Andari Annayya Janmadinam."
Keerthy Suresh reprises the role originally played by Lakshmi Menon in Vedhalam. Lakshmi Menon was seen as a college-going girl in Kolkata, putting the past behind her and restarting life on a fresh note, unaware of her brother's brash side. It's certainly a risk for a mainstream actress like Keerthy Suresh to play a sister role at the peak of her career. It'll be interesting to see if the makers give a different spin to the role in the Telugu version keeping Keerthy Suresh's popularity in mind. Shruti Haasan, who played Ajith's romantic interest in Vedhalam, is expected to reprise her role in Bholaa Shankar as well. The film's music director is yet to be announced.
