Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie Jailer was released in cinemas last Thursday to packed houses across the world. And it has been creating new box office records for Tamil cinema since. As the movie completed its first week in cinemas, Sun Pictures, the producers of Jailer, revealed the movie's actual global earnings so far. While some unconfirmed estimations have claimed that the movie has grossed over Rs 400 crore since its release at the worldwide box office, the actual collection report shared by the producers has given a different story.

According to Sun Pictures, in its first week, Jailer has earned Rs 375.40 crore so far. The production company tweeted the collection update with an asterisk that this figure was only tentative and it will update the final figures soon.

Even though the actual box office figures for Rajinikanth's Jailer till Thursday may not seem as big as the trade sources had predicted, it was still a significant achievement. At the end of its first week, the movie is showing no sign of slowing down as it's dominating the ticket windows across the country. It has become a top-grosser in the southern states, even overpowering Telugu superstar Chinrajeevi's latest movie Bhola Shankar.

Jailer has reportedly raked in more than Rs 120 crore in Tamil Nadu alone so far. And it's expected to surpass the lifetime collection of Ponniyin Selvan 1 by grossing Rs 200 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office. The movie is also performing well at the USA box office with a $4.5 million collection so far.

"We have unanimously received positive responses from across the world, both in terms of reviews and box office results. And all this was possible mainly because of Rajini sir's faith in this script. He knew how this film would land with the audience. Three days before the release we showed the film to Rajini sir. And when I asked him what he thought of it, he said, the movie has come out 10 times better than he had imagined. And that itself gave me the satisfaction of a huge victory," director Nelson said, while talking to the media on Wednesday.

Written and directed by Nelson, Jailer also stars Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Redin Kingsley, Vinayakan and Jaffer Sadiq in supporting roles.
