The inevitable has happened. After many days of suspense and several reports of the producer Suresh Babu renegotiating the direct-to-OTT release of Narappa, Amazon Prime Video has officially confirmed that the film will have its global premiere on the platform on July 12. Commemorating Prime Day 2021, the platform chose to announce its big-ticket release today. Directed by Srikanth Addala, Narappa is the official remake of the Tamil film Asuran and stars Venkatesh, Priyamani, Karthik Rathnam, Rajsekhar Aningi and Rajeev Kanakala in pivotal roles.
The film, set in Anantapur, is an action-packed rural drama tackling caste prejudice brutally, revolving around the story of Narappa, a father who could go to any length to safeguard the future of his family. The makers had also released a foot-tapping song from the film Chalaaki Chinnammi, composed by musician Mani Sharma, yesterday.
Asuran, originally adapted from a Tamil novel titled Vekkai, starred Dhanush, Manju Warrier, Ken Karunas, Pasupathy and Teejay Arunachalam in key roles and was an instant blockbuster, giving the lead actor Dhanush and director Vetrimaaran the biggest commercial success of their careers. K S Thanu, who produced the film in Tamil, is a co-producer of Narappa as well. Incidentally, Asuran too is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
