Online streaming giants Netflix has acquired the rights to the famous children’s book series Ivy & Bean. The OTT platform had announced in a press release in December 2020 that the movies based on Annie Barrows’ best-selling children’s book series will be made into one-hour-long live-action family feature films. Now, the cast and crew for the upcoming movie series have been announced.

As per a report by Variety, the adaptation written by Kathy Waugh will be directed by Elissa Down (The Honor List). Keslee Blalock will portray the character of Ivy, while Madison Skye Validum will play Bean and Lidya Jewett will be portraying a character named Nancy.

Ivy & Bean is the story of two completely different characters who are never expected to be friends. While Ivy is quiet and thoughtful, Bean is loud, fearless and more outgoing. They both soon discover that an adventure together can make even seemingly opposite characters become best of friends.

In the press release, Naketha Mattocks, Netflix’s director of family features said that, with an hour-long run time, the Ivy & Bean film series will still be movies that the whole family can enjoy together. The movies will include safe, fun and elevated comedy adventures that can help the youngest members of a family get an opportunity to see themselves as the star of their own story.

The original book series, written by Annie Barrows, comprised 12 books, which were illustrated by Sophie Blackall. The Netflix feature films series will be produced by Kindle Entertainment with backing from Lionsgate TV along with Melanie Stokes and Anne Brogan, who are also known for producing It, The A List, Kiss Me First and Four Kids
