Now available on Netflix, Sunny Deol's action flick Jaat has had a decent theatrical run. The film, directed by Gopichand Malineni, follows the tried-and-true formula of a rebellious hero challenging a tyrannical ruler. However, the film's climax and its buildup to it are something which have also left people unimpressed.

But here's how Jaat ends...

Introducing Baldev Pratap Singh

Baldev Pratap Singh (Sunny Deol), at first glance, is a happy and unassuming traveller. However, he is soon seen to be an ordinary man asking for an apology over a plate of idli. Later in the film, a pivotal moment at the police station unveils his true identity. He turns out to be Brigadier Baldev Pratap Singh, a highly decorated army officer renowned as the Lion of the JAT government. A short but significant cameo by Marathi actor Upendra Limaye, portraying a senior officer, verifies his military background.

The film's antagonist, Ranatunga, played by Randeep Hooda, is a violent and politically influential ex-Sri Lankan militant who now rules over a portion of Andhra Pradesh. In his past, he was involved in a significant political assassination and managed to escape from an old gold smuggling case. The village of Motupalli has become a scene of bloodshed and forced land grabs as Ranatunga, his wife Bharathi (Regina Cassandra), and unscrupulous local authorities hunt for thorium reserves.

Baldev rescues the female police officers

Baldev finds himself squarely in the path of the gun after he dares to rescue female police officers from Ranatunga's residence. The film swiftly takes an intense turn from here on out. Beginning with the police station staff and working his way up to Ranatunga's trusted advisor Somulu (Vineet Kumar Singh), Baldev begins to methodically dismantle Ranatunga's network.

Officer Satyamurthi (Jagapathi Babu), representing the CBI, seeks a formal response upon discovering Ranatunga's true origin story. However, Baldev informs Satyamurthi that he could overthrow the tyrant without the need for reinforcements.

Climactic battle

The villagers who are unwilling to part with their land are targeted for elimination by Ranatunga. Before he executes them on open land, he gathers them all into trucks. In a mass-appeal introduction sequence, Baldev, however, arrives by helicopter. When Baldev challenges Ranatunga and his soldiers, the battle rages on. The locals unite in support of Baldev, marking a first. They join forces and manage to overcome Ranatunga, putting an end to his terrifying rule.

As everything is happening, honourable police officer Vijaya Lakshmi (Saiyami Kher), who had previously attempted to apprehend Ranatunga, goes back to his mansion. Bharathi, who refuses to give in, ends her life when she meets her there. Ranatunga's mother's heart attack upon seeing her daughter-in-law's death brings the antagonist's family narrative to a close.

Formulaic film

The conclusion of Jaat relies significantly on sentimentality and fan service, but the film itself fails to innovate the action film genre. Full use of Sunny Deol's heroic image ensures that the audience gets what they came for in the last act: a morally upright guy restoring order to a corrupt system using violence, firepower, and conviction.
