The problem of too many Kannada films releasing week-on-week continues, irrespective of whether audiences are favouring any of them in theatres. This week too, there are 6 Kannada films hitting theatres, which would have been 7 if Lineman had not pushed its date ahead by a week. There is an interesting mix of subjects, with the most talked about, of course, going to be the re-release of Puneeth Rajkumar’s Jackie. Here’s a look at all that is coming to theatres this week.

The late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s birth anniversary this year will be special with the re-release of his blockbuster Jackie on March 15. The Suri directed film, which introduced Bhavana to Kannada cinema, had a 100-day theatrical run back in the day and KRG Studios, which is bringing it back is looking at a 100+ centre outing for the film.

Director Ujwal Gonwar’s hard-hitting festival darling film about the migrant exodus when lockdown was announced is being presented by veteran actor Prakash Raj in theatres. The film follows a young boy, whose dream to get a photo clicked in front of the Vidhana Soudha is crushed when the country goes into lockdown, forcing his daily-labourer father to find some means to take them back home.

Somu Sound Engineer

Abhi, a long-time associate of director Duniya Suri, makes his directorial debut this week with Somu Sound Engineer. Led by newbie Shreshta, the film revolves around his character Somu, a hot-headed youngster, whose life changes following a series of events. Nivishka Patil, Jahangir, Girish Jatti, Yash Shetty, Apoorva Sri, Chandana K Gowda, Malla Ramanna, MS Jahangir, are also on the cast of the film that has music by Charan Raj.

Chow Chow Bath

Three love stories are at the core of director Chethan Kumar’s film. The first one has Sachin (Dhanush Baikampady proposing to Saanvi (Prakarsha Shastry), who cannot commit to him because her sister is still unmarried. The second has Shashank (Sagar) see the love of his life at a railway station, while the third sees Sathya (Sankalp H Sharma) smitten by a girl at a medical camp. Whether of not each of them finds their happily-ever-after is what the film is about

Director Rajguru B’s debut venture is a romantic drama centred on a traditional fishing activity in the Malnad region. The film is set a couple of decades ago and has Gowri Shankar and Bindu Shivaraam in the lead, while Gopalkrishna Deshpande and Sampath Kumar are also on the cast.

Hide and Seek

Punith Nagaraju’s thriller about a police investigation into a kidnapping and trafficking ring, whose mysterious leader the cops have no information about, Hide and Seek has Anoop Revanna in the lead. Anoop plays a henchman for the gang, who carries out kidnapping orders as set by the leader. When he then kidnaps the daughter of a wealthy business, it leads to some unexpected twists. The film also stars Dhanya Ramkumar, Krishna Hebbale, Bala Rajawadi, Rajesh Nataranga, among others.
