Immigration crisis, moral dilemmas of violent gangsters, chase sequences and explosions – the trailer of Dhanush’s Jagame Thanthiram that dropped today promises all these and more.
The Tamil film, which is set for a June 18 release on Netflix, is directed by Karthik Subbaraj and from the trailer, it’s evident that the filmmaker has carried over his slick and stylish filmmaking from Rajinikanth’s Petta to Jagame Thanthiram as well.
Right off the bat, we are introduced to Game of Thrones actor James Cosmo’s crime lord Peter threatening to kill a group of men at a detention facility, for not following his orders. Considering that Dhanush’s character Suruli is recruited to help the English gangster in the film, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Peter is threatening Suruli and his men.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg in the trailer, which also offers glimpses of Joju George’s gangster Sivadoss pounding a man’s fist with his hammer and also shaking a leg afterwards. We also see Aishwarya Lekshmi, who seems to play a singer based in the UK, being introduced to Suruli and the two also being chased by a group of men in the woods.
The true star, that goes without saying, is Dhanush’s Suruli, a reckless gangster who seemingly has a moral dilemma while he is out and about waving his gun, fists and even firecrackers.
While the movie is an action-thriller, it also sheds light on issues such as the plight of the immigrants in the UK. According to the official synopsis of the movie, the movie’s fundamental theme is about the fight for home, seen from three different perspectives, of Suruli, Peter and Sivadoss.
