The team of Mammootty’s CBI 5: The Brain had several surprises for the audience this weekend. Apart from revealing the movie’s title and giving a peek into the refurbished iconic theme song, the makers also revealed that veteran actor Jagathy Sreekumar has joined the sets to reprise his role as Vikram in the franchise that completed 34 year this month.

The film’s director K Madhu shared two photos from the sets with Jagathy back in his look as Vikram along with the rest of the investigative team led by Mammootty’s Sethurama Iyer. Mukesh too will reprise his role as Chacko in the movie.

The shoot of the film, which began earlier this year and was halted for two weeks after Mammootty tested positive for COVID-19, is set to wrap up this month. The movie marks the first big project that Jagathy has been part of since his car accident in 2012.

The makers had initially planned to shoot Jagathy’s portion in Thiruvananthapuram considering his condition. However, they decided to film it in Kochi, while ensuring that proper COVID-19 protocols are followed. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, SN Swamy, the film’s scriptwriter, told us, “he character has been designed keeping in mind his condition, but we will also be making certain adjustments.”

Apart from Mammootty, Mukesh and Jagathy, the rest of the cast of the big-budget film includes Renji Panicker, Asha Sharath, Malavika Menon, Dileesh Pothan, Soubin Shahir, Kaniha and Saikumar. While Dileesh plays the role of Kerala Chief Minister , Asha Sharath will be seen as a lawyer in the movie, which is set to release in theatres later this year.

Meanwhile, Mammootty is also set for his first release this year – the much-anticipated Bheeshma Parvam, which is helmed by Amal Neerad. The gangster-thriller, set in the 1980s, will hit theatres worldwide on March 3.
