Jai marked actor-filmmaker Roopesh Shetty’s third venture as a director and the first that he marketed as a bilingual. His first two, Girgit and Circus, were released in Tulu only. Jai , made in Tulu and dubbed in Kannada too, released with both versions in mid-November last year, but it is the original that fared better at the box office.
Following its theatrical run, Roopesh managed to get a satellite and digital rights deal with Zee Network, which he had said was the highest ever for a Tulu film, although he did not furnish a number. The film then made its way to streaming, dropping on Zee5 (also via OTTplay Premium) on February 6, 2026.

In the film, Roopesh played Satya, a loyalist of the local MLA Vishwanath (Raj Deepak Shetty), who remains blissfully oblivious to the abject indifference the politician has towards his constituency. The citizens are deeply troubled by the fact that no developmental projects get taken up and the existing infrastructure continues to crumble, which Satya realizes only when it directly impacts his family and he is left powerless to do something about it.
Determined to turn things around, Satya then rallies to put Vishwanath out of power and replace him with a more conscientious candidate, who will actually work for the betterment of the place and the people. He soon realizes that getting a campaign running against Vishwanath is easier said than done. Does Satya prevail?

Jai is based on a story by Prasanna Shetty, which Roopesh and Venu Hasralli then adapted for the screen.
