In July 2023, the makers of Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer were asked to consider giving their film a different title, at least in Kerala, as there was a Malayalam movie by the same name that was looking at a similar release schedule. Nelson’s film, of course, did no such thing, with both films even taking the legal route and eventually having an out-of-court settlement. The Malayalam film, directed by Sakkir Madathil, which had, supposedly, registered the title even before the Tamil movie’s name became public, backed out of the fight, choosing to hit theatres a week after Rajinikanth’s Jailer came out.

Released in theatres on August 18, 2023, the Malayalam Jailer opened to middling reviews. While the basic premise of the film and leading man Dhyan Sreenivasasan’s performance were lauded, the overall presentation was felt to be lacking on several aspects, leading to a lukewarm box office performance as well. Sakkir had claimed that theatre owners were refusing to accommodate his film, given that Rajini’s Tamil movie was doing well. The film, subsequently failed to get an OTT deal, and was not available anywhere until now.

Dhyan Sreenivasan's Jailer is headed to ManoramaMAX

Earlier today, ManoramaMax revealed that it would be hosting Dhyan’s Jailer. The film will begin streaming on April 4, 2025. Led by Dhyan as the title character, the Malayalam film was based on the true story of a jailer from 1950s Kerala, who attempts to rehabilitate criminals convicted in murder cases. The film explores the trials and tribulations he faces in this mission, including the convicts attempting to escape and derail the jailer’s plans.

Dhyan is joined by Manoj K Jayan, Sreejith Ravi, Binu Adimali, Navas Vallikunnu, Tiju Mathew, Unni Raja, Divya Pillai, among others on the cast. Sakkir is also credited as the film’s writer. Dhyan has had several releases since then, including Varshangalkku Shesham, Malayalee From India, Anand Sreebala, Machante Maalakha, and many more, but with little to no success.
