With Amazon’s $8.35 billion dollar acquisition of the iconic MGM studios, the streaming service will add 4,000 movies and 17,000 shows to its already packed catalogue. These include critically acclaimed movies such as Raging Bull, Thomas Crown Affair, 12 Angry Men and Thelma and Louise along with some of the most famous franchises such as James Bond and Rocky films.

For Amazon Prime Video, this deal could do what acquisitions of Star Wars and Marvel properties did for Disney. Here’s a line-up of all the noted franchises that MGM has created and will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video once the deal is through:

James Bond

The iconic 007 franchise, with all 24 of its releases featuring Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig as James Bond, will be made available for streaming. It would make for the perfect binge-watch before the 25th film, No Time to Die, releases in October 2021.

Rocky

If you have been one of those people who have been looking for Rocky Balboa’s life for some inspiration, you would not have to wait for long. Fans can catch up on the adrenaline-pumping action and motivational quotes of all six of the Rocky films including the forgettable Rocky V once they start streaming.

Creed

While Creed is technically a spin-off of the Rocky films, Michael B Jordan has literally stamped his authority on the franchise with his role as the son of the legendary Apollo Creed, Adonis Creed, who is trained by Rocky Balboa. With Jordan all set for the third movie in the franchise, this could be a gift that keeps on giving for Amazon.

The Pink Panther

There have already been a dozen movies chronicling the adventures of Inspector Clouseau, including the first set of classic films from 1963 to 1993 and the two films from the reboot featuring Steve Martin. With a live-action remake of the comic caper in the works, this is another franchise that will be adding more titles in the future.

Stargate

Space sci-fi fans are going to have a field day when Amazon Prime Video will open its gate to Stargate. While the Kurt Russell-starrer Stargate introduced the characters to the audience in 1994, it also spawned four shows including Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Origins along with three direct-to-DVD films and an animated series.

RoboCop

Another much-loved franchise of the 80s and 90s featuring a cyborg law enforcer will be made available on the digital platform. This will also include the reboot film starring Joel Kinnaman and the shows featuring RoboCop. With another sequel in the works that will continue the story of the very first RoboCop movie, this franchise could also be a potential money-spinner.

Hannibal

The franchise based on the genius, cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter that includes critically acclaimed films such as Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal would also be included in the catalogue that comes with MGM’s purchase. It’s however unclear whether the TV shows Hannibal and Clarice are part of the deal.

Tomb Raider

The action-adventure franchise featuring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the protagonist, Lara Croft is another worthy addition to the list that Amazon will stream. With the video game series still being popular, there’s no limit to the excellent storylines that this franchise can lend itself to by way of web series or films.
