Puneeth Rajkumar’s final commercial movie, James, was released on March 17, his birth anniversary. The movie has done exceptionally well at the box office and has minted big numbers on its third day.
The movie reportedly collected Rs 9 crore on its third day, taking the total gross of James to a massive Rs 38.19 crore at the domestic box office. The film had an overall 44.89% Kannada occupancy on Saturday, March 19.
The movie was released in Kannada with dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. James also had the biggest opening day collection for a Kannada movie, collecting a whopping Rs 23.60 crore. James also set a record for the first day of business in the industry, going past Yash’s period action drama, KGF.
Backed by Kishore Productions, the movie is directed by Chethan Kumar and has Priya Anand as the female lead. The movie also received favourable reviews following its release.
"Ultimately, it is the emotion surrounding James that counts. This is one of the actor’s most massed outings, which his fans will love and cherish for a long time to come. This is also a film that does not require any reviews for its fans to head to the theatre,” reads OTTPlay's review of the movie.
Reportedly, the streaming rights for the mass action entertainer have been bagged by Sony LIV for a staggering Rs 40 crore, outbidding Amazon Prime Video.
With the actor’s posthumous film connecting with the audience emotionally, the signs suggest that James will keep up its impressive box office run.
