The upcoming sci-fi film Avatar 2 is now making waves. Director James Cameron and the official Instagram handle of Avatar have shared a collage of small photos from the sets of Cameron’s much-awaited Avatar sequel. Announced 10 years ago in 2010, the filming and release of the film were pushed ahead to allow the crew to develop new technologies in special effects.
The creative team of Avatar shared a collage consisting of multiple small photos from the sets, as a tribute to the filming crew of New Zealand and the New Zealand film industry.
“To our New Zealand Crew & the entire NZ film industry: It is your artistic talent, passion & technological knowhow that makes us proud to call NZ home for live action filming across all of the Avatar movies. There is no better place in the world to film. Irayo, Jim & Jon,” said the post on Instagram. The collage was also shared by the ace director on his Instagram handle.
After the release of the groundbreaking movie Avatar in 2009, the makers announced plans for a sequel. Cameron also announced that he has three more sequels planned, which will make for a franchise with five movies. Avatar 2 will revolve around Jake and Neytiri, who are forming a family. Forced away from their homes, they now have to explore other parts of the planet Pandora.
Filming for Avatar 2 commenced in 2019 in New Zealand but had to be postponed indefinitely due to the rising number of Coronavirus cases. The filming was recently resumed and completed. The director confirmed that the film is scheduled to premiere on December 16, 2020.
