When it comes to superhero fiction, the only two competing rivals are Marvel and DC, with huge fanbases of their own. So, a crossover between them is highly anticipated and bound to generate massive hype among the audience. Now speaking the mind of fans, James Gunn has proposed the idea of making a Marvel and DC crossover, and even discussed with the creative heads of both companies. The director is the only one who has dipped his feet into both the franchises by directing the Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy.

In an interview with Jake’s Take, the filmmaker expressed his dream project, if the crossover becomes a reality. Gunn conveyed that he would be really happy to do a Harley Quinn and Groot movie. While Harley is one of the main characters in DC’s Suicide Squad, Groot is the founding member of Guardians of the Galaxy. After spending time with both the super-teams, he is confident that he would be able to tackle a crossover quite well.

Gunn informed that both the creative leads of Marvel’s and DC’s Cinematic Universe, were excited on hearing the idea, but the real problem would be going through the barrage of lawyers, before anything can happen.

He tweeted that the DC-Marvel crossover proposal was well-received by Kevin Feige at Marvel and Toby Emmerich at Warner Bros, however the biggest hurdle in the  way is the legal implication of the movie, along with be a lot of paperwork to segregate profit cuts and copyright.

Till both companies can reach a deal prioritising the amount of money that can be made from the mash-up of the franchises, we can watch both the universe’s films, like DC’s Suicide Saud which will release on HBO Max on August 6, and Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which is set to hit the theatres on September 3.
