It's hard to watch a Puneeth Rajkumar film when you know it's his swansong. While there are a couple of films that may still feature Appu, hardly anything can match the high of watching his no holds barred commercial film on the big screen. That's why James, which hits theatres today, will always hold a special place in the hearts of Appu's fans in Karnataka and several parts of the country. The action entertainer, written and directed by Chethan Kumar, has Puneeth paired alongside Priya Anand and has an ensemble cast comprising Srikanth, Sarathkumar, Anu Prabhakar, Hareesh Peradi, Tilak Shekar and Mukesh Rishi as well. The music by Charan Raj for the film had set the tone right for fans.
Several shows of the film had commenced as early as 1 am in Karnataka and crowds are thronging theatres for every possible chance of a ticket. Crackers, banners, posters, this birthday of Puneeth Rajkumar was nothing short of a festival for viewers and millions of his fans. Going by what we hear from them on Twitter, James is a perfect commercial package that's designed to please the masses. Several critics and viewers have hailed it as an action spectacle and have kind words to say about the on-screen chemistry between Puneeth and Priya Anand. Apparently, the film is an entertainer with a social message and has several power-packed one liners.
Fans have particularly liked the interval block in the film and on the whole, named it a 'perfect celebration of Power Star' and that one couldn't have asked for anything more. The slow motion sequences, cinematography and the performances of Sarathkumar and Srikanth have also been received well by viewers. Some of them have even gone onto call it a visual treat and left the theatre teary eyed about bidding a final goodbye to their star. Swamy J Gowda has cranked the camera for the film for which Deepu S Kumar is the editor. James is backed by Kishore Pathikonda under Kishore Productions.
