Jana Gana Mana was a roaring hit upon its release in 2022, with the Prithviraj-starrer taking over the pan-India space, showcasing an engrossing political thriller to a wider audience. Ever since the success of the Malayalam blockbuster, fans from other languages too have been waiting for the sequel of the film. Although the makers are still working on the project, director Dijo Jose Antony in a recent interview revealed the developments in the sequel.
Reflecting on the film's pan-India reach, the director noted that there is a huge pressure to deliver an equally bigger sequel after the success of its first instalment. “We are currently working on the scripting of Jana Gana Mana 2. But since Jana Gana Mana became a huge blockbuster, there is a huge pressure on us creators. Also, it's a pan-India blockbuster film, hence the next part needs to be carefully studied before executing,” he revealed.
“Now what if the film was not a success, then people would not have been talking about the second instalment. Even while promoting my next film (Malayalee From India), people are more interested to know about Jana Gana Mana 2. Hence working on the second part is going to be a huge task,” he added.
Comparing his film with Prithviraj’s upcoming directorial L2: Empuraan, the director said that just like the actor-director has a lot of responsibility to make an even bigger sequel, he also has the same responsibility when planning to make Jana Gana Mana 2.

Meanwhile, the director’s upcoming film Malayalee From India is a total comedy entertainer, unlike Jana Gana Mana. The film, which is slated to have a theatrical release on May 1, stars Nivin Pauly and Anaswara Rajan in leading roles, while Dhyan Sreenivasan, Shine Tom Chacko, Salim Kumar, Vijayakumar and Manju Pillai play supporting roles. The film is set to revolve around Aalparambil Gopi, a silly young man who has to move abroad in order to save his life. However, his life takes a turn when he realises what is awaiting him there.
