Mamta Mohandas today revealed that she has been diagnosed with vitiligo. The autoimmune disorder causes the skin to lose colour in patches due to the lack of melanin. She dropped a picture of herself sans makeup to show the early signs of discoloration and wrote, "Dear sun , I embrace you now like I have never before. So Spotted, I’m losing color…I rise even before you every morning, to see you glimmer your first ray through the haze. Give me all you’ve got..for I will be indebted, here on out and forever by your grace. #color #autoimmunedisease #autoimmune #vitiligo #sunday #spotlight #imperfection #nomakeup #nofilter #embracethejourney #healing #healyourself (sic)."
The news has come as a major shock to her fans. Actress Reba Monica John replied to her saying, "You’re a fighter and you’re beautiful (sic)." Fans of Mamta sent across many messages for her healing and even called her an inspiration.
It was only recently that the actress had shared another post, in which she had stated that time and again life throws curveballs at her, which seemed like she was hinting at her autoimmune condition. "sometimes, the largest ones you can find, each one a little heavier than the previous one. The muscles of my willpower might not be as strong as it once used to be.. but the power of hope is greater.. the imprints in my memory of peaks I have conquered in the past is greater (sic)."
Mamta is also a cancer survivor and the actress had a relapse in 2013. Recently there were rumours that the actress had surrendered her fight to cancer. She hit back at the detractors with the post, "So shutting down the rumours, Mamta wrote, "Who in their sick mind has a problem with 1) me living my life and doing well or 2) propagating false news by picking on someone else’s to gain more views on their fake channel or 3) Minding their own f****** business." (sic)"
On the work front, Mamta Mohandas has a series of films lined up, including Maheshum Maruthiyum, Unlock and Oomai Vizhigal to name a few.
