Jana Nayagan release date: February ruled out, as Vijay's last film causes 100-cr loss to TN theatres

The wait for Jana Nayagan has only been getting longer with each passing day, and now with the Vijay film delayed for nearly a month now. However, with no official word or confirmation so far on the release, it looks like Jana Nayagan might get delayed by months.

Jana Nayagan release date: When will Vijay’s last film see light of day?

Jana Nayagan is an upcoming Tamil film, which features Vijay in the lead role. The film marks farewell for the actor before he pursues full-time politics. While the film was slated for January 9 release, Jana Nayagan is yet to get its censor issue sorted, with the CBFC yet to give the certificate.

Given Jana Nayagan was touted as the first big ticket film of this year in Tamil cinema. However, with its delay, as per an India Today report, theatres have suffered nearly 100-crore in Tamil Nadu. Given only medium-budget films have been released so far in January, as well as films lined up in February, theatres in Tamil Nadu have been facing a lull period.

An industry tracker in the know said to OTTplay, said that Jana Nayagan has a long way to go, given Madras High Court yet to hear the case. Added to this, the modal code of conduct will soon begin in Tamil Nadu, further delaying the release of Jana Nayagan since Vijay is contesting in elections this summer. It is likely that Jana Nayagan might miss out on March, and April too.

So far, CBFC has filed a caveat with the Supreme Court, which means the court cannot give a verdict without hearing the committee’s side of hearing. Reports also suggest that the makers of Jana Nayagan have agreed to trim the film by 20 minutes. Meanwhile, CBFC Chennai Regional Officer D Balamurali who spoke to The Hindu, remained tight-lipped about the status of Jana Nayagan censor issue until the matters are sorted.
