Now that is official that Jana Nayagan will not be hitting big screens on January 9 as anticipated, dejected fans have been getting refunds for their advance bookings. Amid the disappointments, something in favour of fans is that they have been getting full refunds for their tickets, including the processing fees.
Jana Nayagan release date postponed: Are fans getting full refund for tickets?
Jana Nayagan fever had begun a week ago when states like Karnataka and Kerala had begun advance bookings for the film, even as home state Tamil Nadu had not. With FDFS as early as 6am, tickets sold like hot cakes. However, Tamil Nadu had not opened the bookings, excluding a few theatres in some districts like Madurai and Coimbatore.
A huge blow came on Wednesday when High Court had reserved its orders until on January 9 in the ongoing battle between Jana Nayagan makers and Censor Board after the former had approached court seeking censor certificate. This has resulted in postponement of the film. Quick on heels, the advance bookings have been refunded, with fans getting full prices from the ticketing platforms. While it is normal that platforms often retain processing fees, this time full refunds have gone to fans who booked for Jana Nayagan.

Further, speaking to OTTplay, K Vijayakumar of Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala, said, “There is no risk for exhibitors because everything has been digitalised and online sales took place. Counter ticketing is no more and everyone had booked tickets through websites who took care of refunds as well.” He further added full ticket prices have been refunded and there is no downside for exhibitors and distributors.
When will Jana Nayagan release?
Vijayakumar said that only after the makers receive the censor certificate on hand, can they announce a release date. “Only then, they will communicate to us, and we will start bookings. Until then we cannot tell anything. It is no fault on anyone, and all of us understand the situation. There is no problem here on that front,” Vijayakumar said.
Jana Nayagan, touted as a political actioner and Vijay’s last film before he retires from cinema, is helmed by H Vinoth. The film features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, and others. A remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, Jana Nayagan was expected to be the big ticket opener for Tamil cinema this year.
