Janaki Jaane OTT release date: When, where to watch Navya Nair, Saiju Kurup’s family drama

Malayalam actors Navya Nair and Saiju Kurup’s latest venture Janaki Jaane, which had hit theatres in May, is gearing up for its OTT release. The movie also marked the comeback of its director Aniesh Upaasana, who had previously helmed films such as Matinee, Seconds and Popcorn.

The movie’s theatrical release in May happened during the time that director Jude Anthany Joseph’s multi-starrer 2018, based on Kerala floods of the year and starring Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali and Kunchacko Boban, was running to packed houses. This meant that Janaki Jaane only got limited theatres and Aniesh had also appealed to the exhibitors to ensure that smaller films also get a decent number of screens.

With its OTT release, the makers will be hoping the movie reaches a wider audience. Apart from Navya Nair and Saiju Kurup, who had previously teamed up in VK Prakash’s Oruthee, the movie also has George Korah, Sharafudheen and Anarkali Marikar in cameo roles.

What is Janaki Jaane’s story?

The film revolves around a couple – Janaki and Unni Mukundan. The former is terrified of the dark and being alone, and this has a huge impact on her life as well as her relationships. Things take an unexpected turn when her fear get her in an embarrassing situation, which is then used by a political party and sensationalised by the media for their gains. How Janaki takes control of her situation form the plot of the movie.

Aniesh, in an earlier interview with us, said, “It is a feel-good, family entertainer told through humour. It’s a movie that would remind the audience of such films in the 90s.”

When and where to watch Janaki Jaane on OTT?

Janaki Jaane is set to begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from July 11, 2023. The film along with Naslen and Mathew Thomas’ Neymar will be the two big Malayalam OTT releases on the platform in July.
