The film, which was initially titled Janaki v/s State of Kerala, got into a legal tussle with CBFC or censor board as it is commonly known. The board took objection to the usage of Janaki, citing that it was the name of the deity. Though it was unofficially communicated to remove all instances of Janaki from the movie, the makers refused to comply.

The film’s makers, Cosmos Entertainments, took up the matter in court. The issue became a huge controversy with the other Malayalam film personalities backing JSK, and the matter was eventually settled by adding ‘V’ to the title and the name of Janaki was muted at two instances.
