Japan is one of the latest Tamil films to hit the big screens during this Diwali holiday. Written and directed by Raju Murugan, the movie stars Karthi in the titular role.
We can officially confirm that Netflix has secured the streaming rights for Japan. While the filmmakers will not announce the OTT release date for the movie anytime soon, we can expect it to arrive on streaming after an exclusive four-week run in cinemas.
Japan is a special film in Karthi's career as it is his 25th movie. The producers of this movie launched a promotional campaign around this aspect and even organized a star-studded event to celebrate Karthi's milestone in his acting career.

The pre-release event was attended by the who's who of the Tamil film industry, including Suriya, Vishal, Arya, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Siva to name a few.
Raju Murugan is known for his hard-hitting movies dealing with pressing social issues. He made a name for himself with movies like Cuckoo and Joker. And Japan seems to be a departure from the director's usual style of movies.
Based on the trailer, Japan seems to be a mix of comedy, action and all the elements that we expect in a Tamil 'masala' movie. Japan seems to be a far cry from the realistic drama of Raju Murugan's earlier movies.
Japan tells the story of a thief, who seems to enjoy a legendary status in his line of business. Besides Karthi, Japan also stars Anu Emmanuel, Sunil, Vijay Milton and others.
Japan, however, has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences after its theatrical release. Many have called this movie a "misfire."
