Japan, the heist comedy movie that starrer Karthi in the lead role, hit the theatres in November, this year. The highly awaited project, which is helmed by Raja Murugan received mixed reviews from the audiences and ended up as an average affair at the box office. Japan is now gearing up for its OTT release on Netflix. The streaming platform confirmed the reports officially, by dropping a release date announcement poster of the Karthi starrer online.

Japan OTT release date is out

Recently, Netflix took to their official social media handles and confirmed that Karthi’s Japan will get its much-awaited OTT release on December 11, Monday. As expected, the heist comedy is being released in four languages on the streaming platform, including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada. Even though there is no official update on the release time yet, the grapevine suggests that the heist comedy will hit the OTT screens at midnight.

Japan - Plot, cast, and crew

The Raja Murugan directorial features Karthi in the role of Japan Muni, a notorious thief who is famous for his tricks. The police forces of all four South Indian states were behind him for a long time, but he always managed to escape. Japan is accused of stealing jewels worth Rs. 200 Crores from a famous jewellery shop in Coimbatore, but he denies these allegations against him and begins a mission.

However, despite exciting the Tamil cinema audiences with its interesting concept and unique characterization of leading man Karthi, Japan failed to impress. The film was criticized for its lazy, uninspired writing and underwritten characters, that failed to connect with the audience. Even though the leading man initially raised curiosity with his eccentric role in the film, it did not land well after the release.

Anu Emmanuel plays the role of Sanju Kutty in the film, which features a stellar star cast including Telugu actor Sunil, Vijay Milton, Jithan Ramesh, KS Ravikumar, Vagai Chandrasekhar, Beva Chelladurai, Mohammed Irfan, and others in the supporting roles. GV Prakash Kumar composed songs and the original score. Ravi Varman is the director of photography. Japan is bankrolled by Dream Warrior Pictures.
