Karthi's new poster from his upcoming film Japan has been released on the occasion of Pongal. In the poster, Karthi is seen with scruffy hair and seems to standing next to what looks like a human skeleton. The actor is also seen wearing a huge golden pendant and staring at something in an intense manner. Sharing the same on his social media handle, Karthi wrote, "Japan’s pongal wishes to all dear ones (sic)!."


The first-look poster of the actor, too, had Karthi in a quirky avatar where he is seen lazing around in a chair and another avatar of him dressed in an outfit in a golden shade, peeping out from a  photo frame. The posters have raised the curiosity among fans. Anu Emmanuel plays the leading lady and Telugu actor Sunil has a crucial role in it. Music for the film is by GV Prakash Kumar. While the cinematography is by Vijay Milton, editing is by Philom Raj. The film is produced by SR Prabhu's Dream Warrior Pictures, which had earlier backed Karthi’s Saguni, Kashmora, Theeran Adhigaram Ondru, Kaithi and Sultan.


In the meantime, Karthi is awaiting the release of the second instalment of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. The actor plays the Chola commander and spy, Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan from the Bana dynasty. The film is an adaptation of Kalki's five-part novel of the same name.

The star cast includes Vikram (as Aditha Karikalan), Trisha (Kundavai), Jayam Ravi (Arulmozhi Varman) and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Nandini Devi). Music is by AR Rahman, cinematography by Ravi Varman, editing by Sreekar Prasad and art direction by Thotha Tharani. The film is bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The team had recently announced that the second part will hit screens on April 28 for summer.
