Jason Momoa’s Netflix thriller Sweet Girl to release on August 20

In the Netflix film, Momoa plays the role of Ray Cooper, a man devoted to his family. He vows vengeance against a big pharmaceutical company that’s responsible for removing a life-saving drug from the market. Ray was about to start his wife’s treatment for cancer with the medication containing the drugs. When he comes to know about this, Jason fights tooth and nail against the giant corporation but the going gets tough.

Meanwhile, Rachel (Isabel Merced), is growing up and learning self-defence techniques from a local coach. But Ray’s wife (Adria Arjona), who was suffering from cancer, dies. Pushed beyond limits, Ray is now on a quest for the truth and to exact justice. He and Rachel are in danger after deadly encounters along the way. 

It is now that Ray’s quest for truth transforms into his quest for vengeance against those responsible for his wife’s death. While the big and sturdy Jason Momoa is headlining the action film, Isabel Merced as his daughter Rachel essays a key role too. ‘I know you’re fighting for us. But this is my fight too.’ She says at a point in the trailer.

Brian Andrew Mendoza has directed the film. Apart from Jason, the cast also features Justin Bartha, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Amy Brenneman, Raymond-James, Katy M. O’Brian, Nelson Franklin, Lex Scott Davis, Brian Howe, and Reggie Lee. The screenplay for Sweet Girl has been written by Philip Eisner, Hurwitz, and Will Staples. Steven Price has composed the music while Barry Ackroyd has cranked the camera for the same.

Be it the towering Khal Drago in Game of Thrones, or as the famous Aquaman and more, Jason Momoa has taken up different roles. Momoa has previously worked on Netflix shows like Frontier while his next, Francis Lawrence’s Slumberland, will also stream on the same platform. 

Sweet Girl premieres on Netflix on August 20.
