September 7 is the much-awaited date as Shah Rukh Khan is coming with his second film Jawan, after a four year hiatus. After Pathaan's record breaking collections at the box office, fans are anticipating this Atlee directed movie since months. The advance ticket bookings for the film has piqued the interest of the moviegoers after the trailer launch of the film.
However, on the same day, there is other noteworthy release besides Jawan. On the same day, The Nun II will also be released in theaters but it is having a very difficult time finding screens because of the enormous response Jawan has received from early ticket sales.
A source informed Bollywood Hungama, “Warner Bros team is in constant touch with the multiplex chain and other theatres. They are aware that Jawan is a very big opposition. Hence, they are asking for limited shows. Even then, many theatre owners don’t seem interested.”
Warner Bros. theater support in 2020 now met with theater non-occupancy
When other producers chose to wait for normalcy or released their films directly on OTT, Warner Bros. was one of the first to distribute films in theaters in 2020, the source added. During this time, the company also released lesser-known film alongside high-profile ones as Tenet (2020) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020). It was done in the theaters' best interests overall so that they would have content to show and that moviegoers would once again develop the habit of going to the movies. The theaters are now turning their backs on the same studio that helped them through a difficult time, added the insider.
The source also added, “And it’s not like The Nun II will not find an audience. It’s a huge franchise. The previous part, The Nun (2018), collected Rs. 8 crores on day 1 and had lifetime earnings of Rs. 46.46 crores. The Nun II can also have healthy collections if it’s given a chance. Just last month, the monstrous blockbuster Gadar 2 set the box office on fire. But it wasn’t the only release. OMG 2 was also released on the same day and did huge business. Similarly, Evil Dead Rise, also backed by Warner Bros, clashed with Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan on Eid 2023 and collected Rs. 36.50 crores. The same model can be successfully applied with Jawan and The Nun II as well.”
