Jaya Bachchan has been a part of the film industry for over six decades now. The veteran actor went on to have a successful acting career over the years with iconic roles in her filmography. Now, she is also a politician, and she has been making waves on that front too. During a recent conclave, Bachchan expressed her low opinion of more recent films. Not exactly a glowing review of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar's flick.

While speaking at the India TV conference, Jaya Bachchan stated her reluctance to see Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. She said that, look at the title; she is not going to see a movie with that title. Bachchan even asked, "Is that really a name?"

Some members of the audience raised their hands in response to her question about whether they would be comfortable viewing a film with that title. As for the actor's reaction, Bachchan said that it's awful that out of all these people, barely four want to watch the film. She declared,"Yeh toh flop hai."

The host highlighted Bollywood films whose stories align with official initiatives. This "propaganda" film, Bachchan dubbed them and claimed that she has her full support.

The actor commented that discussing such topics requires a significant amount of time, adding that even political groups are now producing films.

Toilet Ek Prem Katha's social message and box office success

Meanwhile, released in 2017, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha brought attention to the lack of adequate restrooms in rural areas of the nation. The film also cast Divyenndu and Anupam Kher. With nearly Rs 300 crore in international earnings, Toilet Ek Prem Katha was a smashing hit at the box office.

The film is available to stream on Netflix and ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium).

Sadabahar (2024), directed by Rajendra Gupta, was Jaya Bachchan's most recent film, whereas Sky Force, Akshay Kumar's most recent release, was in January.
