Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, which hit theatres on October 28, is directed by Vipin Das
Actors Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran seem to have hit a purple patch of sorts this year. After the success of Palthu Janwar and Hridayam, respectively, the duo’s latest movie Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, which is helmed by Vipin Das, opened to theatres on October 28 to largely positive reviews.
The movie is a comedy centred around the life of its protagonist Jayabharathi from the day she’s born to her marriage. Darshana plays Jayabharathi, whose life has been decided by the men around her till a point where she has to fight back. Basil essays the role of her husband Rajesh, a chauvinist, who pays no need to his wife’s opinions and resorts to domestic violence to stifle her. How Jayabharathi finally takes a stand and gives back what she gets form the plot of the film.
Set extensively in Kollam, the movie also stars Azeez Nedumangad, Aju Varghese, Anand Manmadhan, Sudheer Paravoor and Manju Pillai. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the film’s director Vipin had told us, “The movie spans Jaya’s life from the day she was born till she is married. We also focus on the influence of the men in her life and how they control her life, without even them knowing. So, a lot of people who watch the film could relate to it because we are holding a mirror to their lives.”
The film’s OTT rights and satellite rights were sold before its theatrical release. Much like Basil’s previous movie Palthu Janwar and Darshana’s Hridayam, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar by November end and will air on Asianet. The film will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from December 22.
Compared to the other releases on October 28, the movie has got off to a rollicking start at the box office. The movie also marks the third consecutive hit for Basil after Jan-E-Man and Palthu Janwar.
