Jayam Ravi-Nayanthara starrer Iraivan gets a release date

Actor Jayam Ravi on Wednesday announced the release date of his upcoming movie Iraivan. "#Iraivan will surprise you with the incredible theatrical experience across 4 languages from August 25th !!! (sic)," he tweeted. 

Iraivan also stars Nayanthara as the female lead. The release date announcement poster features Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara along with a blood-stain knife. Judging from the poster, the movie could be a revenge drama.

Iraivan marks the reunion of Nayanthara and Ravi on the big screen after the blockbuster Thani Oruvan (2015). 

Written and directed by Ahmed, Iraivan will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages, cashing on Ravi's newfound wider popularity. The star is basking in the success of his previous movie, the Ponniyin Selvan film series. Ponniyin Selvan 2 was released in cinemas earlier this year to rave reviews. Even though the movie didn't break the box office records as expected by the trade, it ended as a profitable venture for the filmmakers. 

Ravi, especially, garnered a lot of love for the way he portrayed the titular role, Ponniyin Selvan. Written and directed by Mani Ratnam, the epic film boasted a stellar star cast. 

In Iraivan, however, Ravi, will be essaying the role of a cop. Produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jayaram G of Passion Studios, composer Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music. 

Iraivan marks the second collaboration between Ravi and Ahmed. Earlier, the actor-director duo worked on a big-budget spy thriller named Jana Gana Mana. However, the film is unfished owing to various reasons. 

Meanwhile, Nayanthara has a slew of much-awaited movies in the works. She will also be seen along with Bollywood superstar Sha Rukh Khan in Jawan. Written and directed by Atlee, the movie will release in cinemas in September.
