The movie, which has Jayasurya essaying the role of a police officer, also has Siddique and Athmiya Rajan in pivotal roles
Jayasurya’s investigative thriller John Luther, which hit theatres in May, is among one of the most-anticipated Malayalam OTT releases. The film, helmed by debutant Abhijith Joseph, has now finally got an OTT release date.
While we had earlier reported that Manorama Max bought the rights of the movie, which has Jayasurya playing a police officer, the platform has held on for a long time to release it. The thriller, which also has Siddique, Athmiya Rajan, Drishya Reghunath and Deepak Parambol, revolves around Jayasurya’s character who suffers hearing loss in the middle of investigating a series of missing cases. How he overcomes the impediment and decides to finish what he started, form the plot of the riveting movie.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Jayasurya told us that though he has essayed several characters who have had some kind of impediment, the role in John Luther was his most challenging because the character couldn’t hear who the other person is saying. “How long can you have the character asking, ‘What? What?’ It becomes redundant and also irritating to the audience. So, we had to navigate those hurdles,” he said.
The actor also said that unlike other characters, he didn’t go in prepared for the role as it demanded him to react rather than act. “It was almost like when I did Su.. Su.. Sudhi Vathmeekam. I had to go in a clean slate and then shape the character,” Jayasurya added.
John Luther is set to release on Manorama Max on August 5. The platform is also expected to drop two other titles – Jayaram’s Makal and Sharafudheen’s Priyan Ottathilaanu – by Onam. Meanwhile, John Luther will be the first of two OTT releases for Jayasurya this August. Eesho, helmed by Nadirshah, is set to drop on Sony LIV on August 26.
