Yash Raj Films finally unveiled the long-awaited trailer for Ranveer Singh-led Jayeshbhai Jordaar, which also marks the Bollywood debut of Arjun Reddy actor Shalini Pandey.

Singh, who is known to take up eclectic leading man roles, once again displays his acting skills with this everyman character. He had recently emulated former Indian team cricket captain Kapil Dev in the blockbuster sports drama 83.

The trailer begins with a village townhall where a young girl tells Boman Irani's sarpanch that he should place a ban on alcohol because village louts often get drunk and harass her. However, the sarpanch turns around and orders a ban on fragrant soap, which according to him, arouses the interest of these young men. All this while, Ranveer Singh's Jayeshbhai watches from his seat in absolute horror.

Then Jayeshbhai leads us to his life, his father (Irani) who is an imposing man, his pregnant wife Mudra (Pandey) and his mother who pines for a male grandson. In one scene, the entire family can be seen bowing down to a goat and praying for an heir. Meanwhile, Jayeshbhai clearly disagrees with this line of thought but can only seem to express this to his daughter and wife behind closed doors.

The trailer also takes us through how the family illegally tries to figure out the sex of the unborn child, and Jayeshbhai's mother can be seen suggesting that they will abort the child if it's a girl. Which, turns out, is exactly who it is.

In order to run away from their family's pressure of aborting their unborn child, Jayesh flees their village with Mudra in tow. While the chases between the family and Jayesh are comedic, the trailer soon takes a serious turn when Mudra suggests he leave her because she couldn't give her a male child.

But Jayesh, sweaty and tense, yells at her explaining that it's the father who plays a role in the child's sex and not the mother.

The comedy, directed by newcomer Divyang, is Singh and his Band Baaja Baaraat helmer Maneesh Sharma's reunion. Sharma serves as one of the producers on this project.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar wrapped filming in February this year, with Singh thanking Sharma for "an incredible 10 years." In the same post, the actor extended gratitude towards Divyang for making him Jayesh.

Ahead of the trailer launch, Singh had said Jayeshbhai unlike a typical Bollywood hero. The actor told Mid-Day that the protagonist will redefine the understanding of a hero in the Hindi industry, and called him "quick-witted" and "kind-hearted." He added that the movie "is a celebration of human spirit that will fill you up from within."

This comedy is in Yash Raj's slate of upcoming movies including Shah Rukh Khan-led Pathaan and Akshay Kumar's period drama Prithviraj.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar will arrive in cinemas on May 13.
