Jazz City was earlier scheduled to be released in February, but it was later postponed to March 2026. Jazz City is a Bengali-language thriller–musical series, directed by Soumik Sen. The story unfolds in 1970s Calcutta, where Park Street’s jazz clubs thrive even as political unrest and the Bangladesh Liberation War reshape the region. Jazz City is all set to be released on SonyLIV on March 19, 2026. You can also watch it with your OTTplay Premium subscription. Meanwhile, the series is releasing the same day as Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is releasing in cinemas.  

What's the story of Jazz City?

Jazz City, a Bengali period thriller, is set against the backdrop of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Created by Soumik Sen, the series follows Jimmy Roy (Arifin Shuvoo) and Sheela (Sauraseni Maitra) as a Kolkata jazz club becomes a hub of espionage, political intrigue, and musical defiance.

Set in 1971 Calcutta, the story unfolds inside a smoky jazz club that draws revolutionaries, spies, and artists during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Jimmy, once far removed from the turmoil around him, is thrust into a dangerous world of espionage and betrayal. As loyalties blur, the rhythm of the club's music becomes the backdrop to personal struggles and a growing fight for freedom.

The narrative explores the protagonist's multiple shifting identities in a time of chaos. It focuses on the 1971 conflict and the transformative period for Bengal.

Who stars in Jazz City?

The series stars Arifin Shuvoo as Jimmy Roy and Sauraseni Maitra as Sheela, alongside an ensemble cast including Shantanu Ghatak, Aniruddha Gupta, Sayandeep Sen, Shreya Bhattacharya, Shataf Figar, Alexandra Taylor, Amit Saha, and Tanika Basu, who bring to life various characters associated with the exciting world of Kolkata's jazz clubs during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Consisting of 10 episodes, Jazz City is directed by Soumik Sen.
