Ben Affleck and Matt Damon gave their long-sustained friendship and their professional relationship was given a new shape through the founding of Artists Equity. The production company makes its debut this year with the riveting film Air, a biographical drama that focuses on the momentous signing of then-rookie basketball player Michael Jordan by Nike to a deal to wear their shoes.
The film's central story also includes Nike co-founder Phil Knight (played by Affleck), marketing Executive Sonny Vaccaro (Damon) and many other real-life characters that have been fictionalized on screen. Air premiered at South by South West on March 18, 2023 and is set to release worldwide in theatres on April 5th.
But it would seem that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck want to hit the ground running with Artists Equity. Reports regarding their second production are already making rounds on the internet and the new project in development includes Jennifer Lopez headlining it.
Yes, Lopez and Affleck, who are now a married couple, are soon to collaborate on a film that is currently titled Unstoppable, another biographical drama that is based on the story of Anthony Rubles. Rubles is a three-time wrestling champion who, despite being born with only one leg, managed to a national championship. As per Deadline, Artists Equity is in final talks before greenlighting the film.
It isn't clear who Jennifer Lopez portrays in the film, or who will be playing the role of Anthony Rubles. Unstoppable will be directed by Billy Goldenberg.
Academy Award winners Ben Affleck and Matt Damon had previously founded the production company Pearl Street Films in 2012. Under the banner, they produced multiple noteworthy projects, including Manchester by the Sea, Jason Bourne and the more recent Ridley Scott film, The Last Duel.
