Jeremy Renner undergoes surgery but remains critical: Here's what happened to the actor

Avengers: Endgame and Mayor of Kingstown actor Jeremy Renner was admitted to a hospital on Sunday, January 1, following a snow plowing accident near his residence. Renner was said to be "critical but stable" while receiving treatment and according to the latest updates, the actor has undergone surgery after sustaining a blunt chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries during the accident.

As reported by The Guardian, the 51-year-old actor remains in intensive care but his condition is described to be stable at the moment. According to CNN, he has undergone two surgeries already with a source close to the actor previously disclosing that his injuries are "extensive", which caused him to lose large amounts of blood.

Renner's publicist was quoted as saying, "Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City mayor, Hillary Schieve, and the Carano and Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

Tabloid news website TMZ reports that eyewitnesses saw Jeremy Renner plowing the road about a quarter mile from his home near Lake Tahoe "so his family could get out after a massive New Year's eve storm". Reportedly, the Northern Nevada region, where Renner was stationed along with his family at the time of the accident, was hit by a brutal winter storm that saw as many as 35,000 homes lose electricity. 

As per the neighbour's account, the plowing machine 'Snowcat' accidentally ran over Renner's leg which made him lose a lot of blood on the spot: reportedly, another neighbour, a doctor, managed to put a tourniquet on his leg before the medical help arrived. TMZ also shared video footage showing Jeremy Renner being rushed to the hospital in a helicopter.
