Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey has finally released in theatres. The movie is expected to earn Rs. 6.8 crores at the opening day at the Box Office. Ormax Media has revealed the prediction from the film.
Jersey, starring Shahid, Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur in the lead roles, has released in theatres after a long delay. The movie was previously going to release last week. Now, it has released on April 22 without any major competition.
According to early reports from Box Office India, the movie has opened poorly despite the positive reviews from critics and viewers alike. Not that Rs. 6.8 crores was a huge target for the movie anyway but it remains to be seen whether Jersey can touch the mark as predicted.
Jersey is the official Hindi remake of the same name. The original movie starred Telugu actor Nani in the lead role. Released in 2019, the movie was also helmed by Gowtam Tinnauri.
The major reason why Shahid’s film might not work, at least on day one, is because the audiences are still in fear of the rising COVID-19 cases. Apart from that, Jersey’s fewer promotions could have affected the film, since many might not even be aware of the movie’s release date.
Back in 2019, the audiences were open to watching any and everything in theatres and thus, when compared to the current scenario, not just Shahid’s Jersey but many films do suffer because of the COVID-19 scare. New cases and deaths have led people back to sitting in the comfort of their homes and watching movies and web series on OTT, which might be the case with Jersey too.
This is not the first Telugu remake that Shahid has been a part of. He very famously worked in Kabir Singh, which was the remake of Vijay Deverakonda-Shalini Pandey’s Arjun Reddy. Interestingly, Kabir Singh had also released in 2019 and turned out to be a big hit for Shahid, to the extent that he finally got his due as an actor.
