Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor, released in theatres on Friday after a few delays. The picture is facing a slow start at the box office, owing to the fact that Yash's KGF Chapter 2 remains a crowd favourite across the country.

The sports drama is an official remake of Nani’s film, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. The film arned Rs 3.75 crore on its first day, according to Box Office India, compared to KGF 2, which grossed Rs 11.56 cr in the Hindi belt. KGF 2 will cross the Rs 300 crore mark this weekend comfortably, indicating a quiet weekend for Jersey, according to trade analyst, Taran Adarsh.

Considering the films currently running at the box office, it looks like it’s the bigger-budget films that the crowd seems to be gravitating to. But even though Kapoor’s Jersey is a big production, it hasn’t had a great start. Smaller and medium-budget films have struggled to break the 5 crore net barrier. Comparatively, the best has been Antim - The Final Truth, which grossed approximately 4.75 crore net, thanks to Salman Khan's star power.

Jersey, according to film trade exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, would not have a 'ballistic' opening. "In terms of box office, I don't think Jersey will open ballistically," he told indianexpress.com. But he is hopeful. He added that the film holds a chance as it will gain popularity by word of mouth and positive reviews. It may not be a terrific start, but he said it will improve with each passing day and produce a ‘respectable total’.

The film Jersey has received fairly positive reviews, given its "emotional quotient." A part of the OTTplay review reads, “Sometimes all you need is a little drama, and Shahid Kapoor's Jersey is here to provide it. It’s not a straight-up cricket movie, so temper your expectations and enjoy the movie.”

The film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Pankaj Kapur, Ronit Kamra and Shishir Sharma in pivotal roles. It is produced under the banners of Allu Entertainment, Dil Raju Production, Geetha Arts, Sithara Entertainment, and Brat Films.
