Jersey had been among the many film titles that had postponed their release dates due to the increasing intensity of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The film, which went on floors in 2019, had witnessed several snags in its production due to the pandemic as well.
The upcoming film is a remake of the 2019 Telugu film of the same name, which starred Nani in the lead. The film tells the story of a cricketer in his 30s, who, after a period of hiatus from the sport, decides to make a comeback to be a part of the Indian cricket team and fulfil his son’s desire to have a jersey.
The upcoming film will mark the return of Kapoor to the silver screen after almost two years. He was last seen in the 2019 romantic drama, Kabir Singh. In addition to Kapoor, Jersey also features Mrunal Thakur, Ronit Kamra and Pankaj Kapur in pivotal roles.
The upcoming film is written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, and marks the filmmaker’s Bollywood debut. He had also helmed the original Telugu film.
The upcoming film is produced under the banners of Allu Entertainment, Dil Raju Production, Geetha Arts, Sithara Entertainment, and Brat Films.
