The upcoming film is the Hindi remake of the 2019 Telugu film of the same name, which starred Nani in the lead. The film follows the story of a cricketer who returns to the game after years, in his ’30s to fulfill his son’s dream of having a jersey. Gowtam Tinnanuri, who helmed the original Telugu film, has also directed the upcoming film.
In addition to Shahid and Pankaj, the upcoming film also features Mrunal Thakur, Ronit Kamra and Shishir Sharma in pivotal roles. The film is produced under the banners of Allu Entertainment, Dil Raju Production, Geetha Arts, Sithara Entertainment, and Brat Films.
Jersey witnessed multiple postponements in its release, most of which were brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The filmmakers were also accused of plagiarism but they won the battle in court.
Jersey is scheduled to hit theatres on April 22, 2022.
