Jewel Mary on playing Mammootty's heroine

In a recent interview with Dhanya Varma, popular TV anchor and actress Jewel Mary talked about how she was surprised to get a call from noted director Salim Ahamed and was even more shocked when he said that he was considering her for his next movie, and that too opposite Mammootty. She recounted that she assumed it was a prank initially but was later convinced that this was the real deal. She got a call to ‘welcome to the world of cinema’, Jewel said, adding that it was a magical moment.

When she finally confirmed, Mammootty jokingly told her, “You would be playing an old woman in your very first film. You will not get any good roles in the future.”

But Jewel said she replied, “Kozhapumilya. Mammookka de heroine ayittile (It’s alright as it is Mammootty’s heroine)”.

On the other hand, Jewel anchored several popular shows such as D 4 Dance, Star Singer and more. She was seen in movies such as Thrissivaperoor Kliptham, Suresh Gopi’s Paappan (cameo) and Antony, among others.

In Pathemari, Mammootty plays Narayanan who goes to the Gulf in search of a better job and life during the 1960s. Through his struggles, the film depicts the ordeal of the Malayali diaspora in the Gulf, and how they toil hard for their families back home. Jewel Mary was seen as his wife, Nalini.
