Jhund has figured in the list of highly awaited Bollywood releases, for quite some time now. The sports drama with an inspiring story and the star power in the form of its lead star, Amitabh Bachchan, has witnessed several snags in its release. After finally deciding on a release date, the film has also locked in on an OTT platform.

The streaming rights of the upcoming film have been bagged by ZEE5, and the film is expected to start streaming on its platform after its theatrical run. ZEE5 is yet to announce a streaming date for the film.

The upcoming film is based on the life of Vijay Barse, a sports teacher and social worker who founded the non-profit organisation Slum Soccer, which is a football club for underprivileged children who have an interest in the sport.

Bachchan will star as Barse, and the film also features Akash Thosar, Rinku Rajguru, Vicky Kadian and Ganesh Deshmukh. National Award-winning filmmaker Nagraj Popatrao Manjule has directed the film, which marks his first feature-length Bollywood project. Manjule has also produced the film along with Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Savita Raj Hiremath, Raaj Hiremath, Gargee Kulkarni, Meenu Aroraa and Sandeep Singh under the banners of T-Series, Tandav Films Entertainment Pvt.Ltd and Aatpat Films.

The film, which had wrapped up its shoot in August 2019, had to postpone its release several times due to a host of issues. In addition to difficulties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was also involved in a legal tangle after being accused of copyright infringement.

Jhund will release in theatres on March 4, 2022.
