Jhund, starring Amitabh Bachchan, gets off to a good start on day one by earning Rs 1.5 crore in NBOC, as per the production figures. The film's director, Nagraj Manjule, has received a lot of great feedback and good word of mouth. While trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that with such positive word-of-mouth, the film would need remarkable growth on Days 2 and 3 to make up for the lost time.
His tweet read, "#Jhund Fri 1.50 cr. With glowing word of mouth, the film needs miraculous growth on Days 2 and 3 to cover lost ground. #India biz."
However, as per reports in Box Office India, only Maharashtra had some receipts, but Jhund witnessed terrible returns on the day, with collections ranging from 90 lakhs nett to one crore nett. The North's box office was abysmal, with single-digit crowds at several shows in Delhi, UP, and East Punjab.
The trading website added that the opening day results are lower than those of the Marathi film Pawankhind, which grossed roughly 1.25 crore nett on its first day. In fact, the third Friday of this film did better in Maharashtra than the first Friday of Jhund. Even so, Maharashtra is the only place where the film has a chance.
With Jhund, Manjule made his Hindi directorial debut. Talking about moving from Marathi cinema to Hindi movies, the filmmaker told IANS that filmmaking is a difficult task in and of itself; each film presents fresh obstacles and problems. As a storyteller, how one works around those challenges and comes up with creative answers to them defines them.
Manjule went on to say that he has worked in Marathi regional cinema and produced a few decent films, but Jhund is one of his favourites because it gave him the chance to work with Amitabh Bachchan. There are no distinctions in his mind between a Hindi major film and a Marathi regional film. This film is another step in his development as a storyteller for him.
