The Karthik Subbaraj directorial beats Karthi’s Japan to become a Diwali blockbuster
Both Karthi’s Japan and Raghava Lawrence-SJ Suryah starrer Jigarthanda DoubleX graced the silver screen during the Diwali week. However, Jigarthanda DoubleX took over Japan at the box office.
The film collected ₹2.96 crore on its opening day, and went on to mint approximately ₹44.12 crore, after successfully running in the theatres for 21 days. Karthi’s Japan, on the other hand, collected ₹2.4 crore on Day 1, and couldn’t lure many viewers to the cinemas thereafter.
Karthik Subbaraj’s latest OTT releases
Karthik’s last two films Jagame Thandhiram and Mahaan - starring Dhanush and Chiyaan Vikram, respectively - made their way to OTT directly, owing to the pandemic. The acclaimed director had earlier revealed that despite his best efforts, he couldn’t stop the producers from putting these films directly on streaming platforms.
