The last leg of 2024 has been pretty eventful because Indian cinema, in general, has seen a lot of big releases hit the theatres and have their destined run. There was something for everyone, as action movies, emotional dramas, and some content-driven films released parallel to each other. One of the most headline-making movies was Jigra, which starred Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina in the lead, was directed by Vasan Bala, and produced by Karan Johar. The movie, which was in the making for a while, finally hit the big screen and managed to create a buzz where it had been discussed for a while. However, the audience has been waiting for the film to drop on digital platforms, and it is finally landing there. Read on to know where, when, and how you can watch Jigra on streaming.
Jigra is about Satya (Alia Bhatt) and her brother Ankur (Vedang Raina), who are orphan siblings brought up by their distant relatives, where they are at the mercy of the uncle they call Bade Papa. When Ankur is falsely accused of drug consumption in a place called Hanshi Dao, where he goes with his cousin, he is used as a scapegoat. The Hanshi Dao court sentences him to death by electrocution, and now Satya must bring down the mountain if need be to save her brother.
During the theatrical release of Jigra, it was confirmed that the movie would drop on Netflix. But fans have been waiting for an official release date. It turns out they finally have it now, as Jigra is all set to release on Netflix this week. You heard that right. The movie will release on the streaming platform on December 6, 2024, which is tomorrow, and the wait is now not even a day.

Meanwhile, Jigra was not a hit at the box office and failed to break even. Vasan Bala, in a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, spoke about this and took all the blame on himself. The director said Jigra's failure was a 'surprise' to him. "The surprise was the failure because you obviously don't set out to fail. Also, this was not a very stubborn, 'will-only-deliver-it-this-way' kind of film. I thought it was a pretty accessible, straight-arrow film, and the emotions were universal," he added.
Vasan concluded, "For me, it has always been a struggle to put the film out. But this time, it was a given that the film was going to be out and in a big way. So this is a first for me, and I don't even know how to process this. What I do know is there is a certain responsibility in the mainstream to deliver at the box office."
