In her new memoir, Behind the Shoulder Pads: Tales I Tell My Friends, released on October 24, actress Joan Collins reminisced working with Evan Peters in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Season 8.’ While filming her character’s death scene at the hand of Peters, Collins admitted to being petrified by the young actor’s menacing expression and murderous intensity.

Initially, she explained the characters and context of the scene before getting to the point. She was not looking forward to the gruesome murder of her character at the hands of her grandson, so she visited the set a couple of days before the iconic scene’s shoot.

She continued, “The director gave Evan and me a few notes: ‘Don’t forget- raise that machete really high and plunge it in Joan really HARD!” A dedicated Peters did not hesitate to listen to wisdom. “Peters was a true apostle of method acting. He lunged towards me with a hideously menacing expression on his face, brandishing his weapon high above his head. Then he swung the machete and crashed it hard into my ‘body.’” Thank God for prosthetics and highly skilled artists who deal with them.

“A huge mass of offal, [pig] intestines, and fake blood came shooting out like a volcanic eruption, spraying all over my face. When Evan hit me the second time I shuddered with real terror as it reverberated through me.” Understandably, this shoot put Joan off sausages and liver forever, for it was not so much the gory script but the sheer brilliance of Evan Peter’s acting skills as well as professionalism.”

Determined to embrace lightness instead of dark angst or gory horror only, Peters shall next be seen in Projects like Snow Ponies, Tron: Ares, and Wish.
