John Krasinski returns to direction with the fantasy comedy-drama IF in which he also stars in the lead role along with Ryan Reynolds. The film, formerly titled ‘Imaginary Friends’, is reportedly based on an original idea of Krasinski which is centred on a “child’s journey to rediscovering their imagination. John Krasinski will also be credited as the screenwriter of IF.

And much to the delight of the fans, the film is now officially underway. The director took to social media recently to gleefully announce that his passion project is now on floors, although without divulging anything about the production.

“Beautiful day to kick off a movie! #IF,” wrote John Krasinski in his post which attracted cheerful comments from his The Office co-stars Angela Kinsey and Kate Flannery, who played Angela and Meredith respectively on the show.

Previous reports have revealed that aside from Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds, The Office alumnus Steve Carrell, British actor-writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, and Cailey Fleming.

While John Krasinski’s latest Instagram post reveals almost nothing about the storyline of IF, the clapboard/slate shows that legendary filmmaker Janusz Kamińiski will be serving as the film’s cinematographer. The 63-old Polish technician is best known for his collaborations with Steven Spielberg on films such as Schindler’s List, Catch Me If You Can, and Lincoln, and this would be his maiden venture with John Krasinski.

John Krasinski is best known for his role of Jim Halpert in the cult sitcom The Office but his creative endeavours also include four projects as a director. His 2018 horror drama A Quiet Place, starring wife and actor Emily Blunt, went on to be a commercial and critical success to warrant a sequel A Quiet Place Part II.
