Be it Mumbai Police, School Bus or IDI, Jayasurya’s cop movies have always had elements that set them apart from the usual investigative thrillers. The trailer of the award-winning actor’s John Luther pretty much promises the same. The movie, which marks the debut of filmmaker Abhijith Joseph, is currently gearing up for release.
John Luther, which was announced in 2019, took its time to go on floors due to the pandemic. Jayasurya was supposed to begin shooting the movie, which also has Deepak Parambol and Siddique in pivotal roles, in the first half of 2020. However, the nationwide lockdown and the subsequent State-wide restrictions due to surging COVID-19 cases forced a delay in the schedules. The team finally began shooting the movie only late last year in Wagamon.
What is John Luther about?
The film has Jayasurya playing a police officer who begins to investigate a series of man-missing cases in his station circle. What sets the role apart is that the cop suffers partial hearing loss during the investigation. How he goes about the case with the challenge forms the plot of the film.
In an interview with OTTplay, the film’s director Abhijith told us that Jayasurya has brought in nuances to his role to ensure that it remains different from his previous works as a police officer including Mumbai Police and Captain, which was the last film that had him essay the role of a cop.
The team has ensured that the soundscape of the movie is conceived and executed in a manner that offers theatrical experience for the audience, he added.
Where to watch John Luther?
The movie, which has Shaan Rahman as its composer, will hit theatres worldwide on May 27. This will also be Jayasurya’s second release in May after Meri Awas Suno, which also has Manju Warrier and Sshivada and is slated to release in theatres on May 13.
