The tragedy that followed the release of one of the most anticipated movies of the year in 2024 is shocking, and none of us even saw it coming. We are talking about Joker: Folie à Deux aka Joker 2, which was touted to be a winner but couldn't even reach halfway to the finish line when it finally hit theatres across the globe. The upset fans have been in denial, but that is the truth, and the movie has failed to even break even at the box office. But there is also a considerable audience that has been waiting for the film to drop on streaming. While the film was available to rent mainly on Amazon Prime Video, it was confirmed that the film will drop for subscription-based streaming on Max and, in India, on JioCinema. Turns out we now have a date for the same finally.

Joker 2 Gets A Streaming Release Date

It was recently when Max (Earlier called HBO Max) confirmed that Joker: Folie à Deux will be up for streaming on their platform very soon. But we did not calculate that it would be this soon. Max has now confirmed that Joker 2 will be available for streaming this month itself and in the coming week. The film is set to hit the streaming platform on December 13, 2024, which also happens to be Friday The 13th. This means the movie is finally set to stream on JioCinema in India in less than 10 days now. You can also watch the same with your OTTplay Premium subscription too after the movie hits the streaming world.

Meanwhile, the box office run of Joker 2 is bad because the movie, by the end of its theatrical run, has only managed to earn a total of $206 million globally. This means the movie is very far from even being called profitable. As per Comic Book Movie, the Todd Phillips directorial may lead to the studio suffering a loss of at least $150 million to $200 million.

Quentin Tarantino Applauds Joker 2

On the latest episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, Quentin Tarantino shared his thoughts about what he felt watching Joker: Folie à Deux. The filmmaker said that he is just nihilistic enough to kind of enjoy a movie that doesn't quite work as a movie. He says how he did not find it an intellectual exercise and was caught up in it; he even liked the musical sequence, which is the most criticized part of the film.

He thought the songs being banal actually helped the following. He even went on to say he found the film funny and that he saw it in an empty IMAX screen, which gave him room to laugh freely. He called Joaquin Phoenix's performance one of the best he has seen in his life. Further, Quentin said that Todd Phillips is the real Joker and gave an entire explanation on why he feels so.

"The Joker directed the movie. The entire concept, even him spending the studio's money—he's spending it like the Joker would spend it, all right?" the director said. "And then his big surprise gift—haha! The jack-in-the-box, when he offers you his hand for a handshake and you get a buzzer with 10,000 volts shooting you—is the comic book geeks."

"He's saying fk you to all of them. He's saying fk you to the movie audience. He's saying fk you to Hollywood. He's saying fk you to anybody who owns any stock at DC and Warner Brothers. And Todd Phillips is the Joker. Un film de Joker, all right, is what it is. He is the Joker," Quentin Tarantino added.
